Distrito wailing

Wails in distrito
Distrito moans at dawn
Dawn servants
Roar on the streets
Slow roar
Deep roar
A 2,000 year old cat in heat
A 3,000 year old statue in heat
A 4,000 year old palm front rots slowly on the dry pothole
A 5,000 year old spirit stirrs inside the yeller
Awoooooooohooooowwwwoooooooooouuuuuuuuuu
Awooooooohhhhoohhhhwwwwwooooooooouuuuuuuu
It might be a reed in a cone
It might be a whistle of oxidized lead
It might be a monk
Who shines shoes on a bicycle with flat tires
It might be a prayer
As easily recorded into unintelligible static on a stereo with the volume defeated
Announcing hot corn with spices, ground into masa, inserted with ancient animals, rolled in dried leaves and ripe fruits
As ritual and ancient
The yeller wakes me up, each morning, stirred.
